Markha Valley trek from Zingchen

Service Description

Day 1: Zingchen is on the borderline of the famous Himalayan Hemis National park. It is a short 40 minutes drive from Leh city along a scenic road along the deep river valley. Get dropped at the bridge and walk along the road to Rumbak village. One can take a route to Yurutse as well. Rumbak is well known for winter stays and snow leopard sightings. While Yurutse has one house for night stays. Camp near one of these for the night. Day 2: Trek over Ganda La at 4870 meters and descend to Shingo village after the long 6 hour walk. Camp at Shingo. Day 3: After a hot breakfast trek to Skiu village. Have a hot lunch here and then enter Markha river valley and start towards Sara village. Skiu to Sara is a short 4 hour trek for today. Night in camping at Sara. Day 4: After a filling breakfast trek to Markha village. The largest town along the valley. One needs to cross small streams at a couple of places to reach here. At one point you walk through some ruins, walk along the old trekking train and through seabuck-thorn jungles. Camp tonight in a fallow field under the clear sky. Evening visit to monastery and palace is possible. Day 5: Trek today to Hangkar village 3-4 hours trek. The route starts climbing up now and you are off the vehicle road soon. More walk on trails and villages getting smaller. Hangkar is the last village in Markha valley trek where one can find houses and homestays. Further on it is only camping. After the day's hard work rest peacefully in the camp at Hangkar. Day 6: Today you trek from Hangkar via Thachungtse camps to Nimaling. This is the heighest camping for you in markha valley. At about 4900 meters, it is the coldest place for a night halt. Water starts freezing in mid September. Nimaling is also the camp and base camp for the five peaks in the valley, namely Kang Yatse I & II, Dzo Jongo East & West and Rigoni Malari. There are few trekking routes emerging from Nimaling too - an exploration for next time. Take rest before the hardest day to claim your markha Valley trek badge. Day 7: After the cold night and a hot breakfast start your ascent of Kongmaru La, the mighty gatekeeper of Markha valley at 5130 meters. Winding trail takes you to the top for breathtaking view.
